PATHWAY TO POWER HOUSE MEETING CAMPAIGN

POWER’s local organizing campaigns in Philly keep running into a common enemy: how housing is becoming an increasing difficulty for more and more of our neighbors. For example, one of the major issues in the “Save Chinatown” campaign is fear that the billionaire developer who want to plant a new arena at 10th and Market is that their longer term objective is to clear Chinatown for redevelopment.

POWER is planning to organize a major campaign around our city’s need for more affordable housing and housing protections for people who already have homes. Would you participate in a house meeting to tell us of your experiences with Philadelphia’s housing crisis?

Michael is having a house meeting with his neighbors in Francisville. Barbara G., despite her own current housing insecurity after a fire left her homeless, wants to gather some of the women she works alongside of in her activism. Michael and Andy are going to hold a house meeting for the folks who come to our Sunday Supper. And there will also be a house meeting or two for people of Old First.

The first house meeting for the congregation is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16 on Zoom. Please let Michael know you are interested (there is only room for about 10 people to participate in a house meeting, but if we have more people who want to be involved and share their experiences of housing issues in Philly, we can schedule more meetings!)

Philly is changing. Is it going to become a city that works better for all its citizens? Or will it be given over to developers building more expensive housing that outprices most of our neighbors?

Join us in the fight to make sure there’s a home for everyone here (sort of a good Old First theme with Old First House going up next door!)
