The Student/Farmworker Alliance staff and national student leadership committee will be converging for their mid-year retreat from May 16-19 in Philadelphia. On May 18th, Alliance members, Temple students, and community allies will be gathering for a “Boycott Wendy’s” rally in Temple University.
The Student/Farmworker Alliance is a national student/youth organization working in partnership with the UN-recognized Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW). The CIW is a human rights organization that created the Presidential Medal-winning Fair Food Program (FFP) ensuring human rights protections for over 35,000 farmworkers in 7 states. Their work has pioneered the international Worker-Driven Social Responsibility Model to eradicate labor violations in low-wage global supply chains. Right now, both organizations are focusing on the #BoycottWendy’s Campaign, since Wendy’s is the last major fast food corporation that has yet to join the the FFP and eliminate abuses in the fields they purchase from.
The rally begins at 5:00 pm at the Temple University Wendy’s (1708 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19121). By raising many voices together, we will declare that farmworkers should not have to surrender their dignity for the right to put food on their families’ tables!
