Saturday Cupboard Success and Requests

Saturday Cupboard Success and Requests

Hi Old Firsters,

I hope everyone is having a great week and doing well. A couple of things on the agenda which I would like to share. The first on the list pertains to the Saturday Cupboard. As usual, we continue to serve up to 50 guests each morning with the help of our dedicated volunteers. If you’re reading this, you know who you are! This past Saturday, we served 26 guests, despite the rain. I think that shows that we are doing something right. Along with this, our current setup has been working great in terms of letting the guests have free choice of clothes, all while being time efficient by having the three tables.

Second, serving fresh food has been a huge success, and I’m always looking for individuals/groups who are interested in cooking breakfast sandwiches for the guests. Currently, I have the second and fifth week of October open (10/10 & 10/31). Shoot me an email if you or anyone you know is interested in helping out!

Also, since we have been serving more and more guests each week, we are running low on hygiene items. Specifically, we are very low on disposable razors, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. All of these items are on our Amazon Wishlist if you are interested in helping out! Moreover, as winter approaches we could always use men’s long sleeve shirts, as these will go fairly quickly come October.

And finally, we need your help! The revised operation of the cupboard has been fantastic and because of this success we really could use more in person volunteers. Plus, I’d love to see some new faces! I understand that this is a difficult time right now, but I want to assure you we are taking the matter very seriously here at Old First. Everyone is required to wear masks at all times, and we also have lots of face shields to give to our volunteers.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can always email me at and I will see you on Saturday!

Take care,

Jess, Outreach Coordinator
