Be The Church With Us
Old First is committed to helping our members recognize, develop and celebrate the gifts God gives them for doing ministry in our congregation and in our world. We invite you to find your way to help us be the Church.
Perhaps you’d like to serve as an usher on Sunday morning, or welcome one of our urban service camps, or organize a group from your workplace to cook breakfast for our needy neighbors.
Everyone, regardless of religious or spiritual tradition, is invited to join us in the act of loving our neighbors and our neighborhood. When we serve others we gain much more than we give.
Urban Service Camps
Old First welcomes youth, adult and intergenerational groups for weekend or week-long Service Camps, which combine direct service at a number of organizations throughout Philadelphia with time for reflection on the realities of urban inequality and homelessness.
Saturday Breakfast & Clothing Cupboard
Each Saturday morning, 52 weeks a year, we serve a hot breakfast and provide clothing and toiletries to 60 people (mostly men). We depend on donations of clothing and toiletries.
Sunday Dinners
We serve dinner to guests in our neighborhood each Sunday evening (52 weeks a year).

Worship Leaders
Assist the pastor on an occasional Sunday morning (liturgist) or to read Scripture (lector).
Sunday School Teachers
Sign up to teach Sunday School (with others) on a Sunday morning.
Fellowship Hour Volunteers
Help us host Fellowship Hour on an occasional Sunday after worship.
Music
Old First prides itself in offering high quality music from a wide range of genres and styles. Enjoy the traditional sacred organ music written for it alongside a gospel anthem, or a bluesy solo accompanied on the piano.
Social Justice
Old First is committed to working toward changing the fundamental injustices that separate people from God and one another. Work along side us to fight for “the least among us.”
