Breakfast Ministry and Clothing Cupboard

Each Saturday morning, 52 weeks a year, we serve a hot breakfast, and provide clothing and toiletries to 50-80 people (mostly men).

Our volunteers include members of Old First, groups from other congregations, students and community service groups, and guests who come for the breakfast but arrive early to help set up.

We depend on donations of clothing and toiletries for our Clothing Cupboard, and we partner with Philabundance for some of our ingredients for the breakfast.

Volunteers are needed to cook, distribute clothes, welcome guests, and take prayer requests.

All volunteers in the group must be 14 or older.

Saturday Morning Volunteers

Team Leader – This volunteer opportunity is held by members of Old First who are trained and are the contact person on the designated day.

Breakfast Team – This is an opportunity to prepare a “To Go” breakfast to 45-55 guests. The Breakfast Team provides all the food, prepares the breakfast either using the church kitchen or elsewhere so it is ready for delivery as a “To Go” package by 8:45 a.m. The Breakfast Team may choose to leave or stay and distribute the TO GO breakfast to our guests.

If you are interested in having your group volunteer in this capacity please read our guide to know what is expected of teams.

Clothing Distributors – Our clothing cupboard functions as a “free store,” offering as much dignity and choice as possible given the availability of donations from week to week. Clothing distributors assist our guests with finding a new outfit and offering personal care items.

Making a donation? Please check our guide for items we’re currently in need of.

Other Volunteers – We also need volunteers to assist us to greet our guests, attend the restrooms and give out tickets.
