We would like as many people in our community as possible to participate in worship leadership. Liturgists assist the pastor with leading the congregation in worship. Lectors read the Scripture during worship services. Children are welcome to serve as acolytes whenever they feel they are ready–usually around age 7.
If you would like to serve as a liturgist, lector or acolyte, please sign up online.
Information for Worship Leaders
The lector reads the Scripture lessons during the worship service. For some in the congregation, who read along in the pew Bibles, the lector leads the reading. For others, who prefer to listen, the lector reads to them.
Some Old Firsters admit to getting confused between the roles of lector and liturgist. In contrast to the lector, whose only role is to read the Scripture, the liturgist sits up front and helps the pastor during the entire service.
Serving as the liturgist is a ministry. We invite you to approach it prayerfully. We want to open this ministry up to as many people as possible, and also to support our liturgists in this “work of the people” (the root of liturgy from Greek).
