In its first two Sundays, “Speed Church” has welcomed four people to church who probably otherwise would not have made it to worship that Sunday. Last Sunday’s visitor… it was his second time at Old First. That might not sound like a big number, but considering our total attendance has only been six people, the percentages are impressive.
The service itself is also nice. It’s a simple, early morning service of Scripture, prayers and communion. It doesn’t take much preparation, but it feels like church, albeit in a quicker form. It’s relaxed, informal and welcoming. It offers communion if you want that support and nourishment. If you are busy later, you can come to church early.
At least with small crowds, it also feels calm, peaceful and sacred. I think the same would be if the Spirit smiled on us one early morning and we had 10 or 15 people join us. We gather in a small circle in the front of the sanctuary.
We’ll be there every Sunday. It’s an other experience of worship that still feels like church. Join us sometime…
