Spiritual Companionship Theme for May: What Separates You from God?

We encourage each of our ministry teams–from the Board of Elders to the property committee–to integrate spiritual formation into their “business” meetings. Groups are asked to set aside time at each meeting to connect with God and with one another and with God. Below are suggestions to prompt that time of sharing.

Here’s this month’s suggestion for a spiritual discussion theme:

What Separates You from God?

Easter reminds us that nothing, no matter what, not even the worst in us or in our world, can separate us from the love of God.

Read Romans 8:31-39.

Nothing can cut us off from God’s love. But sometimes we separate ourselves.

Question for sharing: How do you sometimes cut yourself off from God? Or what do you do to keep yourself from feeling separate from God?

After each person has had the opportunity to share, ask a volunteer to close with prayer.

Remember our “rules” for spiritual companionship sharing:

  • Groups are free to to structure this time however they choose. These discussion themes are provided as suggestions only.
  • In the spirit of our UCC tradition, each individual is free to “pass” from sharing if they so choose.
