Summer Gatherings to Learn More about the Campaign for Old First

If you’ve been in worship in the past month or two, you’ve heard some compelling testimonies from Old Firsters who have committed to participating in this fall’s capital campaign. Over the next month or so, you’ll have a chance to learn more.

Plan to attend one of several gatherings in July and August. Members of the Capital Campaign Committee will be at each event to introduce the Capital Campaign and its goals to you. As Beth W. said in worship last Sunday, there are many reasons to go to one of these gatherings, but the TOP 3 are:

1) It’s where you can see the new “Old First: The Video.”

2) Since we come from all over the metropolitan area, we don’t often get to see each other’s homes! This will give you a good opportunity to see how others live…

3) And to get to get know others better and deepen our relationships. Old First has had so many new people get involved in the past few years; whenever we help people draw closer to one another it is always a self-fulfilling reward in and of itself.

We are trying to get EVERYONE to one of the gatherings. So the small group meetings are taking place across the region and over a whole month. Surely there is one you can join. They are open to anyone!:

~ Thursday, 07.31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Joanna and Bob R’s house in Mt Airy.

~ Friday, 08.08 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.: Michael C’s house in the Francisville/Fairmount neighborhood. Larry W. will be making ribs, so this gathering is for the unapologetically meat-eating.

~ Sunday, 08.10 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: Darla G’s house in Port Richmond; it will be a potluck appetizer gathering.

~ Sunday, 08.10 from 3:00 to p.m.: Greta S’s house in Sicklerville NJ; appetizers and light food; perhaps a good one for people weekending down the shore to stop at one their way home…

~ Thursday, 08.14 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m: Priscilla Mc’s apt. on Washington Square for dessert.

~ Friday, 08.15 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Elizabeth G. and Griffin V.’s house in University City for grilling and a potluck.

~ Saturday, 08.16 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Jackie W’s house in Claymont Delaware for appetizers.

~ Saturday, 08.16 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Annmarie K’s house in the Northeast for a Mexican dinner (note that Annmarie has cats for anyone who might be allergic).

~ Sunday, 08.17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Beth W’s apt. and by the pool in Society Hill for grilling (weather permitting).

~ Saturday, 08.23 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Adam and Sarah S’s house in Oaklyn NJ, for a BBQ (child care will be provided at this gathering).

We’ve tried to get out invitations electronically to specifics gatherings — to mix and match people and times and places. But you may have missed your invite! Or the specific gathering we invited you to won’t work. …You know, trying to organize the Old First community can be like herding cats! IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU ARE INVITED!

Choose one of the gatherings listed above and just let Carrie K. or the church office know you will be there (so the host can prepare for the right number of people).

And expect to come away from a great time, knowing new people and knowing people who are “not so new” in new ways… and having a sense of the excitement about what this capital campaign is growing and become for Old First.

And thanks for participating and for your support of this church, its community and ministries…

We like working with you all!,

Beth W. and Carrie K.
