We’re sort of wondering what is happening to the full city block kitty corner from the church, where the old Pincus Brothers factory once stood. Now the building is demolished, and it looks pretty much like a wasteland, or a moonscape. Michael has heard that from our local representative on the Philadelphia Planning Commission that all the funding is in place to build apartments there. But no work has gotten going. (And meanwhile, parking is still unavailable along Race and 4th Streets next to the sight!)
But, in the last couple of months, right across from church, between the Station House Condominiums and Wire Works lofts, where there used to be a parking lot, work has begun. They are still at the excavation phase, but it looks to be a block through project, presumably more residential development.
Our Old City neighborhood is changing, growing all the time (as it feels so with all of greater Center City). New buildings mean new neighbors. Are there ways that Old First needs to welcome them?
Keep your eyes open for more changes, and we’ll try to keep you informed.
