The New Creche "Stand-ins" Are Starting to Take Shape (paint them with us on 12.07 @ 1 pm in the social hall)

For a number of years, some second hand department store mannequins have stood in the Creche, during its whole seasonal run, except for Christmas Eve when live people join the animals.

But the mannequins have seen better days. They are actually pretty beat up. And don’t stand well. Or keep wigs and clothes on. A non-Christian friend told Michael recently how much she and her kids love coming to the creche each year. But then she added, “And those mannequins are kind of ghoulish!” Hmm, not sure that’s the effect we want to teach the Christmas story!

So this year, we’ve got a project going. We are going to create life-size cut-outs of Mary and Joseph, the Shepherds and the Wise Men. We are working with a local artist, Christina Doe, who is envisioning the figures and will lead us in helping to paint them. They will be fashioned out of plywood, painted as a community art project in the social hall on Saturday, Dec. 7 (all are welcome), and after the paint is dried and they have been sealed, they will be positioned in the creche’ to help adults tell children the Christmas story.

Here are the preliminary sketches of the Christina’s depictions…

Plan to join us in the social hall on Saturday, Dec. 7 to complete the painting and further the Christmas ministry of our creche…
