The Next Way More of Us Can Be Involved with our Outreach Ministries

The  last church project, the sorting of clothes after worship, went amazing! People commented how much they enjoyed the opportunity to serve and how different and easy the interactions were that happened around those tables as we were working together.

And now, we want to try another way for you to be involved in supporting our Outreach Ministries.

With the cold snap, the shelter is running low on food for the freezer, which we use on nights when groups are not scheduled to come in to prepare a fresh meal. (We’ve actually had a series of groups cancel as the weather prevented them from getting to us.) That is where we are asking the congregation to step in and help out.

Just as we’ve created a casserole brigade for some of our own members when they’ve been sick, we thought we might invite people who can cook to share their skills with our shelter guests. But we’re not talking about coming in a preparing a shelter meal.

Instead, as part of the worship on February 9, we will have empty pans and freezer bags available for you to pick up from the Sanctuary. The idea is that you will take them home, prepare something to fill them and bring them back the next Sunday. We will bless the food we receive as part of our worship on the next two Sundays, February 16 and 23.

You can make what you wish, or what is your best dish. Our shelter guests have wide ranging appetites. And they are used to the variety of so many groups coming into cook dinner for them.

Foods you might offer can range from cookies to casseroles to soups.

Make as much or as little as you can. We can always freeze something. More can always be put to good use. But no amount is too little– there are always hungry men over there. We ask that you bring the back on February 16th or 23rd.
