The Shelter Is Still Open and With Us…

Some of you might have known that are Shelter roll increased to almost 40 men for the second half of the season. St. Mary’s, another of Bethesda’s church shelters, closed because of building problems. The facility was not able to house their shelter guests from last winter, and Old First was one of the shelters that absorbed the overflow.

But St. Mary’s building still isn’t fixed. And since it’s Bethesda’s year round shelter, they were left in a bind. They came to Old First, and our leadership agreed to keep our shelter open past its usual closing date of May 1. We’re not doing dinners. But there are still men making their home in our social hall.

Luckily, our schedule allows us to do this for a while with only a few adjustments. For example, this Saturday night, the men won’t get into the Social Hall until after our potluck for the New Amsterdam Boys and Girls Choir is finished. But most of our early service camps can fit in the the CE building, so our neighbors are still among us. Don’t be surprised if you see them, and be sure to say hi…

We will let you know as we hear about repairs at St. Mary’s…
