We Make the Road by Walking Study Group

Getting to know scripture in a way that makes sense.  Starting September 8, 2019, you will have the opportunity to participate in a weekly Bible study using the book We Make the Road by Walking by Bryan McLaren. While the book follows the lectionary year with over fifty-two (plus a few) weekly readings reflecting on several scripture passages that accompany each reading, we are going to start with six weekly sessions.

The reflections written by the author can each be read aloud in 10 to 12 minutes and offer a simple curriculum of insightful reflections and transformative practices. Organized around the traditional church year, these readings give an overview of the whole Bible and provide a guide through a year of rich study, interactive learning, and personal growth.

By participating in one of these study sessions you are offered an opportunity to:

  • Cultivate an honest, intelligent understanding of the Bible and of Christian faith in 21st century
  • Engage with discussion questions designed to challenge, stimulate, and encourage
  • Re-imagine what it means to live joyfully and responsibly in today’s world as agents of God’s justice, creativity, and peace

If you’re seeking a fresh way to experience and practice your faith, if you’re a long-term Christian seeking new vitality, or if you feel like you don’t know enough about the Bible and want a way to learn more, this book will inspire and activate you in your spiritual journey.

There are two opportunities:

Sunday morning from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. September 8, 15, 22, 29, and October 6 and 13

Wednesday evening (by Zoom) 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9 and 16.

We have a limited number of used copies of this book or you can order a new one through Amazon for $10.48.  If you are interested in participating by attending on Sunday morning, or Zooming in on Wednesday evening, please contact the church office to get connected with other group members.   admin@oldfirstucc.com  or  215-922-4566
