The Elders meet the second Monday of each month. They are responsible for vision and planning, evaluation and coordination and financial stewardship. They intend to keep the congregation informed of their monthly actions via a brief article in the E-pistle’s news links, such as this.
At their meeting on Monday, May 14, they:
~ gave thanks that Susan DeAngelus has agreed to chair the Discernment Group that will develop and lead the process by which Old First and Michael will discern if he is to serve as the minister after the Covenant Ministry is completed. (The Elders are working out the details for Michael’s staying during the discernment period which will commence after Aug. 1 of this year.) Susan and Steve Wilhite, as Moderator, will begin working to draft the rest of the members for the Discernment Group.
~ Michael reported on his conversation with Susan Wargo, a minister licensed as an at large worker in the congregations of the Philadelphia Association. She has agreed to “project manage” what Old First needs to get in place on the way towards a capital campaign.
The next step will be to gather a group of Old First leaders and potential Capital Campaign Ministry Team members to meet with Susan. At that meeting, they will agree to the tasks that need to be accomplished and timelines for their completion.
~ The Elders worked further on By-laws language regarding the development of policies. They accepted this task when the suggestion made to last year’s Annual Meeting was tabled.
~ The liaison to the SLGs and the pastor gave brief reports of various areas of our church life.
~ The Elders gave thanks for the positive financial report provided by the Treasurer: it’s good that our income is higher than expected while we are keeping the expenses below their budgeted limits.
