As most of you know, when Michael came to Old First in August ’09, he agreed to live in the Fox Building. It was helpful for him not to have to locate housing and to be so close. And it was an economical way for the church to provide him housing. Old First volunteers prepared a welcoming space for him, and it’s been a good first Philly home for Michael.
But it was always meant to be a temporary arrangement. Pastors do well when they have their own space and some distance from the demands of ministry. Michael bought an abandoned building in Francisville late last year, and has been renovating it to become a 3-family apartment house, one of which will be his home. It’s almost done, and he plans to move in as soon as possible (hopefully in the next few weeks), so he can take up his new role as landlord. (Michael’s leaving the parsonage apartment 2 or 3 months earlier than he had planned will have no adverse affect on the church’s budget).
That will “liberate” the 3 rooms on the 3rd and 4th Floor of the Fox Building. Old First needs to begin thinking how we should use them next. Actually, a number of people already have a bunch of different ideas. To facilitate a healthy, inclusive decision process, the Elders have asked the Administrative Leadership Team to gather and begin to evaluate the different possibilities.
If you have an idea, please write it up and submit it to the Admin. Standing Leadership Team via Mindy in the church office (email@example.com) who will then confirm receipt of your proposal and forward it to the Admin. Standing Leadership Group.
