YASC Introductions: Kayla

Kayla will be serving as the 2013-2014 Wellspring Outreach Coordinator at Old First, the position Billi has been serving in for the previous 2.5 years. She will be coordinating the shelter meals along with Bethesda Project, hosting the Saturday Cupboard and the Urban Service Camp program.

A few words from Kayla:

My year with Old First will not be my first experience with the Young Adult Service Communities of the UCC. I spent my previous summer with a congregation in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. There I worked with a local soup kitchen as well as helped to teach during a three week tutoring program. I hope that my summer there helps to enhance what I can give while serving with Old First. This year, for me, is to give back to the community of Philadelphia, which has helped me thrive over the past four years at Temple University.

I plan on entering graduate school next to get a PhD in English. I see my final place as a professor in a university, helping educate the next generation. While I will most likely end up in a city other than Philadelphia, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I plan to make a difference, no matter how large or small, in my year through service and I am glad that Old First UCC can help me to achieve that.
