It is often remarked these days that people today expect more options — of style, content and scheduling… a symptom of our market-driven economy and businesses that are getting better and better about catering to very specific market shares.
For church, with limited resources and a diverse community, that demand can often be hard to fulfill.
But, unexpectedly, at Old First, we’re moving into Lent with 4 different options. Different ways you might join in a lenten practice as you prepare on the way to Easter. Or maybe you want do more than one of them, or all of them:
~ Lenten devotional worship: Thursday nights, a brief service of prayer, scripture and music. 7 to 7:30 pm. on March 13, 20, 27 and April 3, 10. Look for more information soon.
~ Lenten Awakenings: gathering meeting on Sat., Mar. 1 at 11 a.m.; then it’s an “independent study” of reflection, prayer, journaling… at your own pace. For more information, here is the link.
~ Lenten Sunday Suppers: one Sunday evening of the season, join other Old Firsters for a family-style dinner. For more information and to sign up, here is the link.
~ Canvassing for the upcoming elections: working with the other congregations of POWER, we will be reaching out to neighbors, by phone and door to door, to make sure that education is a number one priority in upcoming elections and that the city’s fair wages extend to everyone. More info. will be available after this Tuesday’s Power meeting.
