If you haven’t already heard the exciting news from our church’s Annual Meeting last Sunday, let us tell you how wonderful it turned out to be!
There were 50 folks in- person and 19 folks on Zoom, a very good turn out!
The regular business was addressed, approval of minutes, annual reports and budget. A special moment was when Kris Forrest gave a heartfelt commendation for Jonathan Vogan whose long service as Treasurer for Old First was deeply appreciated. That was followed by an introduction of Jane Huber who will be our next Treasurer.
While the budget was approved, it couldn’t stretch enough to fully cover an Outreach staffer to coordinate our Outreach meals and the summer program. This was a position we have had in the past, but without the funds that used to come in for the Shelter program, it didn’t fit in the budget this year. Beth Walker made an impassioned plea for gifts from the congregation to cover a staffer to handle these Outreach needs. Before the meeting ended, $10,000 was donated by the congregation! The budget will be amended in a future meeting.
What a generous church we have to turn God’s blessings to us unto compassion for the least of these! Thank you so much, Old First, and thanks be to God for leading us in caring paths!
