Soup, Pray, Love

Soup, Pray, Love

Share a bowl of soup with your Valentine and fellow Old Firsters on Ash Wednesday, February 14 at 6 pm. We’ll gather in the social hall for a brief time of fellowship and a simple meal prior to worship at 7 pm.

Then we’ll go up to the Sanctuary as we open the season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday worship. Michael sometimes describes Lent as the season of the church year, when looking inward, we are called to be “brutally honest” about ourselves.

Ash Wednesday doesn’t begin slowly or gently; it doesn’t hold its punches. Rather, it clocks us over the head with the reminder we are mortal – not only imperfect but time-limited too. A parishioner reflected back to Michael once what she heard: “You mean, we mess up and then we die!” Well… Michael will be introducing this year’s Lenten Devotions as part of that service (as well as part of his sermon on the Sunday preceding, February 11.

Many thanks to our soup preparers: Toni, Sarah, Beth, Diane, Michael & Suzanne. Please join us, and feel free to invite others.
