Sunday School Starts this Sunday, Sept. 15
(during the worship hour)
Looking forward to seeing all our young families, especially your children, now that the school year has gotten started. Early September can be a packed few weeks for families with young kids, but, hopefully not adding to it, we are starting Sunday School this week!
We have back all of the same teachers as last year, except Anneke Kapteyn-Zhou who has started graduate school as a Physician’s Assistant. But we have added two new teachers: Jonathan Vogan and Sarah Greenberg. So we are good to go (but if anyone wants to volunteer, we can always use more help)..
Darla is helping me with organization this year. She and Ibidun are this Sunday’s, the first week’s, teachers. Wouldn’t it be a nice beginning if ALL our children showed up this Sunday?
We have also changed curriculum to something Darla used at her previous church. It’s a lectionary-based United Methodist lesson plan designed on a “one room school house” model for mixed ages. You can read about it HERE.
Otherwise, our Sunday School program will be pretty much the same as last year. We begin each Sunday morning with families together in church. The kids will go to Sunday School after the Time with the Children.
Sunday School will take place in the Social Hall. But we will also have additional, other spaces as Old First House opens up later this fall. And the kids usually stay downstairs in the Social Hall until you pick them up after worship.
The teachers are having their “gathering meeting” this coming week, so there might be more news after that…
But it’s exciting to get back to Sunday School programming: caring for our kids and teaching the faith, what more could we want to be central ministries of our church?
