YOU HAVE AN ASSIGNMENT TO COMPLETE FOR WORSHIP THIS WEEK

HERE IS A COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS – CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD/VIEW

you are invited to look through in advance of worship this week (particularly if you will be worshiping from home!).

For people in the Sanctuary, these photos will be spread out on the tables so you may chose two actual photos.

People at home, you may study them beforehand and choose your two photos. But the tech desk will share these photos with you during worship, as people in the Sanctuary are choosing their images and getting their brunch.

As part of worship, you will be asked to choose two images.

If you accept this worship assignment – “do your homework ahead of time!” – feel free to either take a picture on your cellphone of your two pictures or even take a “partial screen shot” of them, and print them out for yourself. If that is not possible, a good memory of the photos you choose will also work.

What are the two images you are supposed to choose?

  1. The first picture should represent – either directly or metaphorically – a struggle or suffering you have experienced in life. You are to make this connection to your own life by choosing an image. But you WILL NOT be asked to share the image or explain the struggle or suffering (unless you want to).

  2. The second picture should represent – either directly or metaphorically – one of the ways that Jesus helps or has helped you.

To make sure you understand, let me give an example. I looked through my pictures and chose the two following images. I will explain both for the example – but remember that you will not have to talk with anyone about your first photo / struggle – suffering.

1.) It’s an “outsider art” mosaic that in this instance represents how I have often felt different, like I don’t fit in – both from a very young age growing up in my family and in the larger world of my adulthood even now.

2.) This picture of two pairs of feet reminds me of how I trust – no matter how tough the way might seem or how alone I am feeling – that IN JESUS God is “keeping up with me” always (even when I don’t quite believe it).

I hope my examples helped! You’ve got to be creative and make connections – with your own life, with your faith and with how the images can make you think and be open to interpretation…

We’ll be at tables in the Sanctuary this week for worship, Brunch and the Annual Meeting (because we need the technology in the Sanctuary to allow folks from home to participate fully). So, we’ll try something new in worship, a way of reflecting with others in the Sanctuary and at home.

If what we are going to do this Sunday is not all clear yet, don’t worry, I will walk you through it on Sunday, and we will be together and with Jesus, and that always helps.

See you in church,

Michael
